WPF/e and Flash

Dec 12, 03:07 am

Since the WPF/e CTP was released last week there have been a fair number of posts debating the relative merits of Microsoft’s new XAML-based technology over Adobe’s incumbent Flash technology.

In the spirit of peace and harmony here’s somthing slightly different. Since WPF/e uses JavaScript for (some) of its external communication it can be made to interface with Flash relatively easily using the ExternalInterface API.

On his site at theWPFblog, Lee Brimelow has used this to create a proof-of-concept design called Microbe that shows WPF/e and Flash co-exisiting happily and passing information between each other in an almost seamless manner. Highly recommended.

Bootnote: You need to have the WPF/e plugin installed for the demonstration to work correctly. Lee also provides a full VS 2005.sln for the example, which you’ll find linked from the page.
